Expertise in Quantitative Genetic Analysis

We are experts in genetic and statistical models for identifying the underlying genetic factors and prediction of complex traits and disease phenotypes. We have successfully applied these models to a wide range of phenotypes in model organisms, animals, and humans. We believe that our expertise and know-how is a key element for the successful implementation of predictive models of complex traits and diseases.

We have substantial experience with the development, optimisation and implementation of:

Statistical methods (Likelihood or Bayesian), statistical models and efficient algorithms for

  • handling large numbers of predictor variables (e.g. large p small n)
  • a range of genetic architectures (i.e. Mendelian, infinitesimal, few large and many small effects)
  • using prior information on biological mechanisms underlying the trait
  • using information on multiple correlated traits
  • adjusting for complex family relationships or population stratification
  • adjusting for other non-genetic factors including lifestyle characteristics

Statistical modeling strategies and experimental design for collection of genetic and phenotypic data to detect and reliably quantify the effect of genetic factors (e.g. assessment of power and prediction accuracy).
